The Indians held their annual football banquet to wrap up the conclusion of the 2007 football season. The Coaches would like to thank the Booster Club for their generosity and hard work that made this year’s dinner and award ceremony a success. The Booster Club provided a great BBQ dinner, all the awards, and t-shirts for each player. McEachern athletics are very lucky to have such a great organization helping them.
The first awards of the night were presented to the young men who were selected as this year’s Team Captains. Jerimia Curry, Kyle Glenn, Chris Moore, and Keith Parker were selected by their peers to serve as the Captains for the 2007 season. This year’s recipient of the Academic Award was Brett Dodd. The Academic Award is awarded to the student-athlete that has the highest GPA on the team. Dodd currently holds an outstanding 4.2 GPA.
Travis Dungee is this year’s recipient of the Eric Petty Weightlifting Award. The Eric Petty Award is nominated by the coaches and awarded to the player that demonstrates great work ethic in the weight room and through their hard word earned an opportunity to compete on Friday nights.
Scott Berninghaus is this year’s recipient of the Golden Helmet Award. The Golden Helmet is awarded to the individual who embodies high character, service, and a great work ethic. The Golden Helmet is voted on by the coaches and considered to be the “coaches’ dream” award. Congratulations to Scott and the rest of this year’s recipients.
Mark Bounds, Jerimia Curry, Travis Dungee, and Luis Uranga have all been selected to play in the 1st Annual Cobb County All-Star Game. The game will be played in January at McEachern’s Walter H. Cantrell Stadium.
Finally, two McEachern Indians were selected to this year’s Marietta Daily Journal All-County Team. Junior Terrell Mitchell was selected by the coaches from around the county as All-County tight end, and senior Luis Uranga was selected as the All-County punter. Congratulations to our All-County performers!
